China Eastern Airlines hits turbulence, 20 injured

According to ALJAZEERA:

“At least 20 people have been injured, four of them seriously, after an international China Eastern Airlines flight from Paris hit turbulence over southwest China, according to state news media.The incident happened on Sunday when Flight MU744 from Charles de Gaulle Airport was descending to land at Kunming Changshui International Airport in Kunming in Yunnan province, Xinhua news agency reported.Passengers suffered bone fractures, scalp lacerations and soft tissue injuries caused by falling baggage or collisions with overhead lockers, it cited local hospitals as saying.The plane landed safely an hour later and those who needed medical help were taken to hospital, Xinhua said. None of the injured were in critical condition. “

It is not the first time that something has happened to China Eastern lately, and a bit more than a week ago, according to CGTN news where A China Eastern Airlines flight heading for Shanghai from Sydney was forced to turn back due to a problem with the plane’s engine, the airline said in a statement on Sunday. All passengers and crew are safe.

China Eastern Airlines is one of the flagship carriers in China and they all have been taking approaches to face stronger competition and challenges of foreign airliners taking share of the ever-growing Asia market. For China Eastern (IATA:MU), they’ve began with the points and status co-recognition program with SPG (Starwood Group) which is one of the biggest frequent flyers and loyalty programmes improvement in years for Chinese carriers.

So it’s really unfortunate to see so many incidents happening for such a short amount of time for MU, but the good thing is that no serious injuries or loss of lives has happened so far, so kudos to the pilots and crew for handling this with such high level of professionalism.
