Beijing’s First Mandarin Oriental Finally Opens

After 12 years of twists and turns, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, which has the largest number of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world, finally landed its first hotel in Beijing.

On March 18th, Beijing Wangfujing Mandarin Oriental Hotel opened. It is also worth noting that the hotel is located in the Wangfu Central Shopping Center.

Recently, many newly opened boutique hotels have joined hands with shopping malls. It seems that the commercial complex integrating shopping malls, office buildings and hotels seems to have become a major trend in hotel development.

Beijing Business Daily

The newly opened Beijing Wangfujing Mandarin Oriental Hotel has only a total of 73 rooms, two restaurants and a rooftop bar. The hotel has also become the smallest hotel in Asia at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. It is worth mentioning that as early as 2007, Mandarin Oriental and CCTV signed a contract to build a “fan hotel” located in the CBD. But after a fire two years ago, the facade of the “fan hotel” gradually “disappeared” in people’s sight.

Although there has been news since then, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will open the luxury hotel in Beijing’s core business district, but there has not been follow ups. This time, the newly opened hotel is located on the top two floors of the “Wangfu Central” under the Hong Kong Land Group, and the hotel and the shopping center can be connected. In response to the opening of the hotel in the shopping center, Wenhua Oriental Hotel Group Chief Business Relations Development Officer Lichad said that Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is interested in the developed business of the Wangfujing area, which has a large passenger flow and is located at the core of Beijing.
