Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

JW Marriott is one of the most premium hotels in Hong Kong, located at Central, its building stands alongside Conrad and Island Shangri-la and many people consider them the Golden Trinity of upper scale hotels in central Hong Kong. Don’t get me wrong, they are not on a par with luxury chains like Mandarin Oriental or Peninsula. Besides, the property is no longer young having been standing there for 30 years. It still kept its competitiveness for a hotel that’s on the verge of hitting menopause, sorry, I meant hitting a critical stage.

How I Got There:

By taking the airport express MTR train, I was able to walk from Hong Kong Station to Central Station, and with one more stop of MTR, I reached exit F towards Pacific Place at Admiralty station. Then, you would be able to see the signs that lead you to take the lift to lobby floor. There are also entrances from the Pacific Place Mall connected to the hotel.

Check In:

As I land at the airport eight in the morning again, by the time I reached the hotel around ten, I wasn’t really hoping for any upgrades. There was no queue during check in, and the majority of lobby staff were well-informed of guests. So I walked to one of the available counters and the lady handled me with great profession, she asked me whether I would like the welcome amenities as points or snacks, and informed me with all the benefits of a Platinum member, she told me that I can only have breakfast at the executive lounge, but I will get a discount if I choose to dine at the restaurant.

I already heard how good breakfast at the lounge is, so I told her that I will be having it there, as for the welcome amenities, I voted on points. The check-in process took around five minutes, and she walked with me to the lift and waited together for another awkward three minutes for it to come, she handed me the key before telling me to have a nice stay, and only then was I able to find out the floor level is at 21.

I feel like I left something on this part, oh, yes, they honoured a suite upgrade, she asked me if I don’t mind a smoking room, they have one available at ten in the morning for me. I gladly took it and thanked her for this gesture.

As I said, the property is quite old now, so in the hallway, there isn’t any window, they had to use an air ventilator, still there was a bit of smell; A middle-aged housekeeper walked passed me and greeted me as I was walking to my room, I wasn’t sure if it was planned or maybe it’s just a nice coincidence. Though I did feel very welcomed.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Twenty-first floor isn’t necessarily the highest they can offer, but it has impeccable views already.

The dinning area in the living room.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The living room is in the size of a standard guest room, but I presume due to the old design so the executive suite does not have a guest bathroom.

Around five minutes after I entered the suite, the friendly housekeeper came knocking on my door and brought me the welcome fruits and tea. I thanked for her hospitality and tipped her.

The welcome fruits and tea was another nice gesture and if you asked for turn down service at anytime of the day, they will refill it for you instead of taking the plate away.

Other amenities in the living room come as standard like many other hotels, they offer espresso machine and a tea kettle, as well as complimentary bottled water, you probably noticed already the antique-looking piece of work is actually the ice bucket they are using at the hotel, though I never requested ice during this stay, but still, DOPE.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

A very well-thought-out mini-bar display, from snacks(there are even more up on the shelf) to drinks variety. From Evian to MÖET, they are all very recognisable brands.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Their thoughtfulness does not just end there, a microwave is also placed under the counter, talking about those late night cravings.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

If I have one bone to pick here, it would be the safe, the safe is great in functionality, however, this is the first hotel I’ve been to in Asia where I can’t fit my 15 inch MacBook in, this is not a first-world problem, I believe many business travellers can have PCs easily in that size, and there’s no safe in the bedroom closet, which means space is rather tight here.

The Bedroom:

The bedroom also has the squared floor end where two floor-to-ceiling windows are placed perpendicularly, this gives you more view of the harbour from two different angles.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The bed itself is not huge, but holy-bruce-wayne-batman is the mattress the most comfortable piece of furniture I’ve ever slept on, it gently sucks you in alongside the help of those soft pillows and bedsheets, I only slept for one night at the hotel, but lord did I tucked myself in bed a dozen times without any turn-down service just to hear the sound of joy coming out of my mouth.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

This is one of those freakish fetish you get to discover by staying here, but one thing turns my switch on more than necessary is the night stand monitor.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Just look at all those buttons, I mean I can play with it all day but that’s not the only thing they offer in the bedroom.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

It is normal to have an office area in the room, but it’s not normal if they have thought everything through for you, I mean talking about a person who often procrastinate in life, it made me feel even uncomfortable not to work for a bit as other than standard notepaper and pen, in the drawer on the side of the glass desk, you can find useful stationaries at your disposal.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Different kind of sockets are also prepared along with adapters. Things you need and don’t need are all there for you.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The armchair next to the desk with separate footrest.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The closet looks chic but still it can’t hide its ages, the marble exterior is made of plastic-looking material which could be tacky in present day, overall it looked alright but more like something vintage from old Hollywood movies.

Another cheap move is the flooring that when you open the closet doors, it’s on the same floor level as the room, with the identical carpet. Maybe you can call it semi-walk-in-closet for a child? I managed to fit myself in it, so here are the amenities in it.(Sideline: talking about my dedication writing reviews.)

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

A convertible luggage rack, a shoe-shining basket and an ironing set, with standard two pairs of slippers.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

For JW Marriott, it’s usual that they prepare two pieces of silk-surfaced spa robe with velour material inside, you can also find Japanese bathrobes typically under the drawer of the TV stand, heck, you can try both of them since the bathroom came with a jacuzzi.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Another thoughtful thing they’ve prepared in the drawer of the nightstand is a Jogging Map around Central, Hong Kong. You can also find religious pieces in there.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

I do recommend doing an early-morning jog around the hills, you can see the city coming alive and surrounded yourself with the energy and liveliness of unalike groups of people together. Just don’t get lost, rush hour drivers will horn your brains out.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The Bathroom:

The bathroom size is generously huge, and what I first thought was a two-persons’ bathtub turned out to be a functioning jacuzzi. Not to mention the BVLGARI shower amenities they offer. Again, sorry for my chicken paw here.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Everywhere is clean and nicely-prepared and the fresh piece of flower really bring out the luxury of the place.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

With separate shower and bathtub(jacuzzi), prepared with two sets of shower amenities, I can’t praise them enough here.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The jacuzzi can easily fit a couple in there and even four skinny ones if you ask me, however, as I test-runned the thing, I can’t help notice the small pieces of dust coming out of the pipeline, that’s not a problem of housekeeping but more of the age of facilities at this property.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Two more bottles of water with compliments and nicely stocked towels everywhere. Clean and neat, but black marble is no longer in just like my new Gucci flip flops, but men, those BVLGARI are gold standard. As literally they are people selling those on eBay around 18 dollars a piece.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Other bathroom amenities are standard Aromatherapy like many other JWs.

The Executive Lounge:

Located at 33rd and 34th floors, the lounge has spectacular views of the city but the staff weren’t especially service-mined as maybe it’s more of a self-helping service they’re trying to offer here, I didn’t mind it but that’s definitely something to be aware of.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The vestibule decor piece is different to my own floor’s.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

I thought it would be quiet easy to get a spot, but the entire first floor is occupied at nine in the morning, I did managed to grab a seat after a few minutes.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

On the right side of the lounge, there are business zone where magazines and newspapers are prepared and you can use the iMac or the iPad whenever in need.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Here’s a picture of the seating area during breakfast when I was about done. However, the impressive feature is not those empty chairs, the breakfast display was the real highlight of the stay.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Bear in mind it is a lounge breakfast offering, so typically you would have standard continental breakfast which the majority would be cold. But not with this one, it looks like they live to enchanter here.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

You can access snacks, fruits and drinks all day long while breakfast and hor’dourves come with much more varieties. The staff is busy refilling plates and seemed to be always chitchatting on their own, nothing wrong being joyful, but it was a bit chaotic when several guests were trying to pick stuff from the same counter area.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Easy-to-grab fruit pieces is not enough here, you think you’ve learned how to call out the names of different fruits since kindergarten, but no, they had like ten different cut fruit offerings, and two of them I simply just can’t figure out what they are. You can see for yourself here.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

It does not taste sweet as it’s more like plain potatoes with a more watery aftertaste, so I don’t know why they offer that, as typically in Hong Kong tropical fruits are the mainstream, thus they must have their reasons.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Cold plate offerings during breakfast hour in the lounge.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The covered counter is for liquor offering during cocktail hours.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

All-day snacks and cookies display, four different kind of cookies, and they all tasted very fresh.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Gluten free offerings for those unfortunate.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The hot plate offering during breakfast cannot be compared with normal lobby breakfast buffet, but it’s a decent selection of dishes both western and oriental, plus those local delicacies – dim sum.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

They do have an omelette stand where you can order how you would like it done, however, if you are thinking of wonton noodles, you are out of luck here.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The pastries are amazing, they smelled great and tasted freshly-baked and with so many choices of jams, I thought I should watch out for diabetes. The point here is, I would no doubt have some more of those pineapple bums. Yum.

The Swimming Pool:

The swimming pool is conveniently located at the 7th floor and they have bar-featured restaurant onsite right next to the pool which is quiet popular among guests. The lifeguards are very attentive with offering you towels and locker key.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

You can see their competitors’ buildings right behind the pool lounging area; even Conrad’s swimming pool if you look through the bushes carefully.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The beauty of Hong Kong is that you can be in the urban and the jungle at the same time.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

The pool is large but not very deep, as it’s more of a social pool where people can order drinks from the bar in their bikinis and walk around with it.

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

Stay Report: JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive Suite + Executive Lounge

You should still bring lotion as the sun can be extremely strong.

Bottom Line:

This is one of those perfect stay experience where you do not to have play the DYKWIA card and they proactively pay attention to every single detail. I can’t praise them enough, because when you are well taken-care-of, you do not even think of your status, as you are truly pampered by what they have to offer already.

I am definitely coming back and maybe live here for a much longer period. Their room rate certainly is not cheap, but they are not the most expensive ones in Hong Kong either.

I will be happy to see a complete renovation being done to this property, they are currently refurnishing parts of the building, but if Shangri-la has done so to their legacy properties, maybe JW can follow?

Albert K. Field Albert is my name, and travel the world is my game. I began my passion for travel at a very young age, I started this website as a strong means to further explore the world of frequent flyers programs (FFP). The relationship between customers and service providers in the aviation and hospitality industry always seems to be in opposition, however, since the introduction of United Airlines’ Frequent Flyers Programm since 1972*. This has significantly eased the middle spectrum between 2 parties. While the aim of airlines is still to generate more revenue; but for us,as consumers, are also given the opportunity to participate in the bargaining and exploiting from service providers. Living in a world of globalization where big data becomes vital for simulating successful economical activities, most of us will have to travel to other locations whether willingly or unwillingly, while you hearing all this fascinating stories about others, In fact, you too, can blend into the trend. It may not sound like how media illustrates, but indeed there are possibilities for us to have more spontaneous travel without getting held back by financial situation. My website consists of reviews of airline premium cabin products, airport lounges and stay reports of 5-star hotels and their executive lounges across the globe. In addition to all of that, I care the most about their frequent flyers program and loyalty program, which also includes banking partners. Plus, I spontaneously put up reviews and news update regarding premium water brands and restaurants. The purpose of this website is to share all of this information with my audience as well as inviting you to be part of my journey.

Stay Report: Hotel Indigo Warsaw Nowy Świat, King Suite Review

Published

on

Hotel Indigo Warsaw - Nowy Swiat - Courtesy Of IHG

The Hotel Indigo Warsaw Nowy Świat is a four-star boutique hotel located next to the old town of Warsaw, Poland. What formerly known as the Branicki Residential House – Smolna 40, the building can be dated back to 1903. Through turmoils during the war, the residence building was developed by BUDIZOL Property to open as an Indigo hotel in May 2017.

How I Got There

The hotel is centrally located, so you may get there by many means of public transportation, but Uber is also extremly cheap in Poland, so the ride-sharing app has been my go-to method of communting around the city.

I arrived at the hotel site around 2 PM, and I was immediately impressed by the architecture itself. The hotel doesn’t look busy at all, in fact, it was a bit too quiet, I guess that’s why they called themselves a boutique hotel.

Check-In

The hotel lobby is mesmerizing, the art installation was majestic and beautiful. Since I booked the stay with IHG rewards points, so I wasn’t expecting anything over and beyond from the hotel; however, to my surprsie, I noticed in the app that room has been upgraded to a suite in advance.

The lady who checked me in was happy to see someone finally showed up when I entered the lobby, she welcomed me with a warm greeting and thanked me for my royalty with IHG rewards, she told me that they’ve upgraded me to their only king suite of the hotel, and she called the housekeeping to check again whether everything was ready before making the room key cards for me.

She mentioned nothing about breakfast and I ended up not waking up early enough to find out anyway.

The entire hotel is trying to be sustainable, so the hallway light will only switch on if you make a clear sound, which can be creepy at times.

Practical Info

  • Length: One night Stay
  • Booked Room Category: Standard 1 Queen NS
  • Upgraded Room Category: Suite 1 King NS
  • Booking Made: IHG App
  • IHG Rewards Tier: Spire Elite
  • Booking Through: Point Breaks Redemption (15,000 Points)
  • Room Number: 409

The Suite

Upon entering, the suite looked bright and open, I felt the openness within the enclosed space avaliable, as stated on their website, the suite is only 44 sqm.

The interior is elegant and chic, I liked the strong contrast between the furniture and the plain white wall.

The suite has dedicated space for your luggage and decent closet space for all your other belongings.

The most dazzling thing about the living room would be the window, not only was it up to the ceilings, but the painted window frames made it even more chic and elegant.

The elevated seating space made it even more exquisite, you can just imagine yourself sitting there with a glass of wine and looking out to the window as you are taking everything in with light music playing in the background. (I actually did that.)

With different seating sofas together, you can also have an enjoyable time with friends and families.

Overall the living room layout is decent and nothing is compromised here in order to make up for the seating space.

I’ve chosen the welcome points during check in, but the hotel went out of their way and left a welcome letter with a glas of red wine for me in the room, too. I certainly felt very welcome by this kind gesture.

With the suite upgrade, I was also able to enjoy free soft drinks & snacks as part of their free in-suite offerings.

The counter under the TV is fully equipped with all the glassware and tea sets.

The mini bar has a decent selection of liquor options in addition to the free soft drinks.

One thing I found out during the stay was the scale formed inside the water kettle, that’s very unpleasant to encounter as it feels like the housekeeping lacks some attention to details here.

Behind the sofa sets, you can find a simple desk where you can work on. The desk & chair itself is decent but nothing revolutionary, but the smart appliances will surprise you.

The lamp had a charging head for iPhone and the smart telephone comes with google maps and internet browser, plus many other apps. In my opinion, these small gadgets are huge enhancements to a hotel’s hard product offerings nowadays.

The sky-light ceiling adds another key selling point to the room, it makes you feel the visual extention to the environment outdoor so for a moment I felt like standing under the glass roof of a French museum.

The Bedroom

The bedroom is relatively simple, the design is modern as always, but it’s not the same size as a normal guestroom, in fact it’s smaller.

The bed and pillows are clean and comfortable, the bed the hotel referred to as a king bed is of decent size, but not the biggest I’ve seen, the headboard is elastic and it’s great to lean on.

The hotel offers in-room handy phone which you can take out with you for internet coverage and make phone calls to a dozen different countries free of charge.

The Bathroom

The bathroom went for a black & white decor which brings out the contrast between the chequerboard tiles and other interiors.

The oval bathtub is elegantly designed and looked very chic.

The shower amenities being offered was from the German sport luxury brand Bogner. It was okay to use but personally I didn’t feel anything extraordinary while using it.

Another smart solution they had with the suite was, with a push of a bottom, you may switch clear or opaque the smart glass they’ve installed between the bathroom and the bedroom.

Fitness & Sauna

Although the hotel only has 60 rooms, it has a 24 hours fitness center equipped with a small sauna facility.

It’s not the most well-equipped gym but you can get a work out done without much problem.

The staff reminded me that it take some time to heat up the sauna, so if you are thinking of using it, you would have to call them in advance so they can heat it up for you.

Bottom Line

This IHG property gives great recognition to its elite members, that something may look favorably upon. It has a great location in central Warsaw, while the hotel itself is very quiet and peaceful, so it’s highly recommended that you spend some days with them. The staff doesn’t have to deal with a large flow of guests checking in and out everyday, so they definitely have a lot more time to ensure the quality of your stay experience; besides the hotel was opened 2017, so right now might be the perfect time to try it out.

Moxy Frankfurt East Stairways Wall

Moxy hotels are Marriott’s new budget chain that has properties with very basic room categories, so with Marriott Rewards, you won’t be getting suite upgrades or lounge access as they practically don’t come with any, instead, it’s a nightclub-like hostel that are filled with flirty little details to discourage you from thinking about the price you are paying for those tiny rooms.

Moxy Frankfurt East is not conveniently located near Frankfurt Central railway station, but it’s definitely not far from it; you may reach the hotel with the city tram which will drop you one block away from it.

Check-In:

Moxy is offering a bar alike check-in experience, as the counter area staff are also bartenders who sell and make drinks. I arrived at the hotel around 12 PM in the middle of the night. I supposed the lady who checked me in was already tired of her shift, also I didn’t have too much expectation from Moxy to start with, she used a lazy tone and informed me that she will just credited me the 500 points and carded me a room on the first floor. I then asked for a higher floor, only to be told the hotel is fully booked. K…

Moxy Frankfurt East Floor Layout

Floor Layout

The room is tiny, as you would expect from a hostel, but it has tried its best to offer everything a standard hotel room could give. It has a IKEA style minimalistic furnishing and everything is of miniature size. Except the TV, the TV is huge compared to everything else in the room.

As the Moxy brand is a quiet new, they are able to offer a lot of innovative smart solutions. Even for hotels like JW Marriott Hong Kong, their top notch service doesn’t include a high resolution TV.

In addition to TV and radios; the TV also offers internet browsing, personal device connection and weirdly enough – ASMR bedtime stories. Young people today would love these and it’s still very new. So, good job, Marriott.

I do think the nightclub alike touches could attract a younger crowd than normal; and just maybe Marriott could win them over when their younger targets become business travellers one day. Not bad.

The bed and linens are well, not so comfortable, it’s close to hostel qualities and it’s far from the good ones.

The towels are thin and shower amenities like soap and shampoo are in dispensers only. Nothing much to complain here, as for a brand like Moxy, it will never get better.

Breakfast:

After the introduction of the new Marriott program since August, Courtyard, AC Hotels, Protea and Moxy will stop offering free breakfast for elite members. Instead you get a 10 USD credit. Breakfast cost 10 Euros at Moxy Frankfurt East, and I am not sure it’s worth what you are paying for.

They offer a decent selection of cereals though, I am uncertain whether it’s a Moxy thing or a German thing, or a pop-culture reference; maybe a little bit of everything then. But the word for the hotel is – cost-saving.

Moxy Frankfurt East IKEA Alike Breakfast Tray Return Station

IKEA Alike Breakfast Tray Return Station

Another IKEA alike feature is that you might be expected to return your tray after you are done with your breakfast. It’s quiet common for young people today to do this self-willingly.

Another notable feature is their coffee machine that freaking offers more than 20 different choices. Impressed.

The Gym:

The gym area is located at the lobby as well. It’s a square-shaped room with all the necessary facilities. Nothing to complain about.

Other Amenities:

The lobby area is a cool place to explore as they combine everything at a business-oriented hotel all within the same place.

Conclusion:

I’ve paid more than 100 Euros for my one night stay which could get you some decent full service brands instead, I would only consider staying here if I am able to score a deal around 60 Euros in the future. Other than paying for breakfast, I wouldn’t mind recommending you staying here for a special experience and if you are into getting some instagramable pictures taken.
